Frequently Asked Questions

  1. What time should we arrive?
    • You should plan to be at the Andromeda Training Facility (map here) between 30 minutes and 1 hour before your age group is scheduled to begin (schedule and accepted players will be posted here). This will give you time to check in and warm up and watch some of the events going on.
      • For the 2010 event we plan to start the tournament at 9am for Girls and at 1:30pm for Boys. As the event gets closer we will make any adjustments to this schedule to compensate for conflicts that come up.
  2. Who should pay for the event?
    • The idea of the event is Keeper Love. This is a day for the goalkeepers, as such, it is a day that the players team should support the goalkeeper as a group both by their attendance and financial assistance. Only team checks are accepted as a form of payment for the event.
  3. What games are played in the GoalieWar competition?
    • There are two formal games and one informal. The first formal game is the KeeperWar competition. The second is the "back at you Beckham" competition. There will be an area set up for soccer tennis for those players who have down time.
  4. What is the KeepepWar competition?
    • This is Keeper against Keeper in a one on one battle. You can see the rules here. We are hoping to have a video that outlines the game for you before the event date. There will also be a short demonstration before the first game on event day, this will help you plan your strategy.
  5. What is "back at you Backham"?
    • This is the shooters or specialist's game. It is the shooters from one team against the goalkeeper of another team shooting from set piece (or free kick) locations near and around the goal. One team of shooters shoots against a goalkeeper then the other teams shooters shoot against the other goalkeeper. The winning team is the team that scores most goals. You can see those rules here. We are hoping to have a video that outlines the game for you before the event date. There will also be a short demonstration before the first game on event day, this will help you plan your strategy.
  6. How many specialists (shooters) will be needed?
    • You can have up to 5 specialists with you. The Back at you Beckham competition will require 3 specialists. Having more will give you a slight advantage. You will still be able to compete with less than 3 specialists, but they will be pressed for time and rushed during the competition.
  7. What will the specialists do?
    • During the "Back at you Beckham" competition the specialists will be shooting to goal from the penalty spot and various locations around walls. During the KeeperWar competitions the specialists will want to remain to help with ball chasing and encouraging their goalkeeper. Having the specialists to help chase balls will give an advantage to the goalkeeper during these competitions. They may also play soccer tennis or simply hang out during this event.
  8. What should we wear to the event?
    • Each goalkeeper and specialist should wear soccer gear appropriate to their role. Goalkeepers should have typical goalkeeper equipment (gloves, jersey if wanted etc..). Goalkeepers should wear shinguards although there should be no contact in any of the competitions. Club and team gear is neither necessary nor discouraged.
  9. I am late getting paperwork and signatures from my specialists, what should I do?
    • No worries, just make sure that we have a copy of the release forms for the specialists turned in by check in on the day of the event.
  10. I just decided I wanted to participate, can I sign up on the day of the event?
    • We will not be taking any walk up participants this year.
  11. Am I confirmed for the competitions?
    • This will be posted soon here.
  12. What are the rules for the various events?
